Each 12th share has four weeks in every year; two fixed weeks in the summer season (April to October) and 2 'floating weeks' in the winter. The fixed weeks have been set for the duration of the 10 year contract which started in 2009.
By the end of March, sharers put in their requests for the floating weeks they want the following winter. If there is a clash, technically the sharer who put in their request first has priority; in practice it has always been resolved informally in an amicable fashion.

|General comments about the boat|
Alexandrine is a beautiful boat, well-maintained, fully equipped and comfortable.
A new engine was fitted in 2007 and she was completely repainted in the same year.
There is a hot water heater and central heating by radiators throughout the boat, 12 volt electrics and a 240 volt inverter.
There are 6 berths; a fixed double in the rear cabin (very comfy!); 2 singles (which can easily be converted to a double) in the middle cabin and 2 armchairs in the saloon which convert to 2 single beds. Duvets and pillows are kept aboard; you are expected to take your own linen and towels.
Bathroom comprises a half bath with power shower over, toilet and basin.
The galley is well equipped with gas cooker, fridge, toaster, sink and plenty of cupboard space; cooking utensils and more than sufficient crockery & cutlery for 6 people.
In the saloon, in addition to the armchairs and 2 padded stools (with storage) there is a folding dining table plus 6 folding chairs; satellite TV and DVD player, plus a coal-burning stove which makes everything really cosy.
Alexandrine was built by J D Boat Services Gailey Ltd in 1999; this remains as her base on the Staffordshire and Worcester canal. It is a great central location as it is only a few miles to junctions with the Shropshire Union canal (to the East) and the Trent & Mersey (to the West) and hence to the rest of the canal system. The boatyard easy to reach by road - A5 and M6.

The original 10 year agreement was renewed in 2009 for another 10 years at which time the dates of each co-owner's two fixed weeks were set for the whole of the 10 year period. Everybody 'pitches in' for the winter weeks they would like and, in the event of a clash, everything is sorted out amicably.
And finally, just in case you were wondering - an alexandrine is a line of poetry with 12 syllables - hence the link to 12 shares.
