|General comments about the boat|
Derrineel has bedroom cabins front and rear with the raised wheelhouse separating the rear cabin from the rest of the boat making it a very private guest room.
The mid-boat kitchen/saloon leads into the front bedroom cabin by walking past a separate bath/shower room on one side of the boat and a hand basin and a separate loo on the other. The front wood-panelled bedroom has ample storage space, radio/CD player and a full sized double bed that can be accessed from either side (a boon to the more mature owner!)
The saloon has seating for six or so on two armchairs, a bed settee and various free standing chairs and stools. The dining table is lightweight and easy to move for outdoor meals. The saloon is equipped with hi-fi, DVD player and docking for I-pods. The kitchen area has electric fridge, gas cooker, microwave, and a full complement of crockery, cutlery, glassware and kitchen gear. Space heating is from a Morso ‘Squirrel’ multi-fuel stove or a central heating system with radiators in each room.
The wheelhouse has room for spectators as well as the driver and provides a convenient repository for ropes, hoses, electrical cables mooring pins etc. The roof is demountable for warm weather.
To the rear of the wheelhouse is the rear cabin, small and cosy but housing a full-size double bed, storage and a small en-suite loo and shower room.
The engine space is beneath the wheelhouse and accessible by lifting a section of the wheelhouse floor.
All on-board lighting is LED but there is (subject to having a shore connection) a mains supply for the kettle, microwave, immersion heater and other appliances.
The boat is no longer in the first flush of youth but the reassuring solidity of its construction and equipment make for very comfortable living aboard.

General Comments by vendor
Derrineel is normally based at
Decize which, apart from its strategic position at the junction of
the Canal du Nivernais, River Loire and Canal Lateral a la Loire has
excellent, secure moorings with access to power, fuel, water and a
small port-side hotel and restaurant.
Waterways in this region are relatively peaceful and the boat is based in an area of great beauty complemented by the food and wine of Burgundy and the Loire. Our current base means that even a ‘there and back’ fortnight, starting and ending at Decize allows you to cruise on the picturesque Canal de Nivernais as well as the Canal du Centre, Canal lateral a la Loire, the Roanne Canal and the Briare Canal. Agreeing a ‘remote changeover’ with the owner who precedes or follows you extends your range to include the Loing Canal the River Saone and even Paris.
Derrineel is managed entirely by its owners. Most are UK based but we have owners who travel from California and Australia. We operate as a co-operative with various roles being undertaken by volunteer members of the group. A couple of members have marine engineering skills, others attend to the accounts and paperwork, supervise the internal furniture and fittings, look after the two folding bikes, renew the ropes/fenders and so on. We try to meet once a year in the autumn to agree running costs and major repairs and who will do what. For the last few years the boat has over-wintered in the small mooring of Marigny sur Yonne on the Nivernais canal where Steve Daniels handles any repairs and painting agreed by the AGM.
There is no boatyard hand-over service and the convention is that the boat is fully fuelled, watered and cleaned inside and out on handover by the departing owner and crew. Valet services are sometimes available although this cannot be relied upon. A full orientation session will be provided for the new owner before the first cruise.
A register of breakdown services is kept aboard (along with the contacts for other key people and a very comprehensive boat manual) although simple problems are dealt with by the owners where practicable. Our excellent Bosun is available by phone to advise technically unaware owners.
It is expected that new owner will have or be prepared to acquire an ICC certificate from the RYA.
Compared to the costs of hiring or outright ownership, a share in Derrineel offers a highly cost-effective and comfortable way of enjoying glorious holidays afloat in this most inviting area of France. We and our various crews have memories of many holidays to cherish.
