A booking chart for the following calendar year is circulated in agreed priority order before the owners’ annual meeting, where the bookings for the next year are confirmed.
Each owner has a priority for that year, and moves up a couple of places each year: after a year at the top of the list, the owner then starts at the bottom, and after six years the cycle begins again.
Each owner can choose two weeks (separately or as a fortnight) in the ‘high season’ (April to October inclusive), and one week in the remainder of the year. By this route, thirty-six weeks are firmly booked before the year begins.
Allowing for time for winter maintenance, the remaining fourteen weeks are booked with priority in reverse order to the original chart, so having last choice originally does have its compensations. These extra bookings are confirmed on the first day of the month before the month of the booking.
|Priority for school holidays||
Two designated "special" shares have priority booking of school holiday weeks.

General Comments by vendor
Sapphire Cut is well maintained and kept in good order.
Share owners elected to move from using a paid management company to become privately managed. This has proved to be highly successful and enables increased funds for the boat to be kept to a higher standard.
Locating the boat at Welton Hythe enables a wide choice of cruising destinations. So far we have cruised through Braunston in the directions of Warwick, Banbury and Rugby. Other possible destinations within relative close proximity include Market Harborough, Leicester and Milton Keynes. The Marina itself is an extremely pleasant and relaxed location to begin your holiday!
Share owners have an informal meeting in March and a formal AGM in November of each year. There is an appointed chairman, treasurer and person(s) in charge of maintenance. Monthly balance sheets are sent out by the treasurer, to enable full transparency of money coming in and going out.
Individual share owners pay for pump-out (if pump-out toilet used as well as or instead of cassette toilet), refilling of diesel fuel, coal and replacement of gas bottle (if runs out) during each holiday.
It is again emphasised that this special share
affords first or second priority above all other
share owners in booking three of your holiday weeks,
giving the best probability of always obtaining
weeks that are best suited to you.
There is NO extra charge for booking school holidays
(above the sale value of special shares being above
that of ordinary shares), in fact, there is some
preference that special share owners choose their
weeks to be in school holidays where possible.
Our circumstances are such that it has always suited
us to book a mixture of school holiday and
non-school holiday weeks. During 2017 we will have
had non-school holiday weeks in March and September,
and a school holiday week in May. In 2016 we had
school holiday weeks in April and August and a very
enjoyable week prior to Christmas in December.
We have had great
pleasure and enjoyment during our time on the canal
with Sapphire Cut, at times of year spread across
spring, summer, autumn and winter. Share ownership
has proved to be a very cost effective way of
sampling and enjoying life on the canal. Time now
for us to buy a boat that will enable us to spend
more prolonged periods of time travelling on the
