The allocation of time on Zenith is designed to provide extended cruising. The ‘summer’ season (March to October) is divided into eight periods (one per share) of four weeks apiece on the basis of a rolling eight year rota. Each share is entitled to a further two weeks in the ‘winter’ season which are chosen by ballot at the AGM.
There are also rules covering five-week months when they occur.

|General comments about the boat|
Zenith was built in 2001 by John White Boatbuilders and is a beautiful 52 foot semi-trad boat with Josher-style bows, painted Mauritius Blue with coloured lozenges on the front.
She has a large, regularly maintained Beta Marine diesel engine (Model 1903 - 43bhp) which is serviced at 250 hr intervals.
Electrical supply - 3 x domestic batteries and 1 x engine battery. 12V and 240V supplies (via an Inverter). There is a landline connection for powering the 240V system plus a trickle charger for charging up the batteries.
Heating is provided by an Erbespacher diesel central heating system and a solid fuel stove.
The boat is fitted with fire extinguishers and blankets as well as smoke detectors and a CO detector.
The stainless steel water tank holds 150 gallons and has twin water pumps.
The interior of the cabin is lined with ash-veneered T&G and hardwood trim.
There is spray foam insulation in all areas.
Entry is from the stern via a glazed door. This leads into the cabin which has a fixed double bed with an interior spring mattress. The bed side can be pulled out to create a 5 foot wide bed. There is ample storage space beneath the bed and in a range of cupboards.
The shower/bathroom has a 'hip bath' with shower over, a wash basin with storage under, and a Sealand Traveller pump-out toilet.
The galley has vinyl flooring with a sink and drainer, electric fridge, a gas oven, grill and 4-burner hob, and a microwave oven. It is extremely well equipped for four people (there are several good cooks among the owners!).
The main saloon has a breakfast bar with two high stools, and freestanding furniture consisting of two comfortable chairs and a table and chairs set. Extra sleeping accommodation is provided by an inflatable double bed (Aerobed) with in-built pump.
There is a solid fuel stove.
There is a TV and CD/radio player and a Freeview satellite system.

General Comments by vendor
Shared ownership in a private scheme is as much about the other owners as the boat. Zenith scores well on both counts. She is a brilliant boat, which has had the benefit of a number of significant improvements over the last few years. She is well maintained and loved by her group of very friendly owners.
Zenith has been self-managed since 2006. Day to day arrangements are delegated to a three-person management team (Boat Manager, Secretary and Treasurer) but each owner also takes responsibility to arrange for things to be fixed whilst out cruising if there is a problem, and ensures the engine is serviced at the right time. Decisions on winter maintenance and refurbishments/improvements are taken at the AGM. January is set aside in the rota for planned maintenance and implementing AGM decisions.
Annual running costs are around £5000 per year, compared with total fee income of £8000, which has allowed a reserve fund to be built up and a programme of boat updating to be implemented. In recent years carpets and curtains have been replaced, LED lighting installed throughout, a double leaf glazed oak opening anti-draught window fitted to the side hatch and saloon freestanding furniture replaced. This is in addition to blacking, repainting and refurbishing woodwork.
The rota arrangement for Zenith is unusual and was originally designed to bring the benefits of continuous cruising into a shared ownership. Zenith has great travel range and comfort with sweet lines that glide beautifully through the water, propelled by the economic but powerful Beta 43 engine.
As an owner you will cruise in different seasons as the shares move through the eight year rota. The shares are ideal for somebody who is retired or those who have the flexibility of adjusting their work schedule to suit cruising schedules. Experience has also shown that there is inevitably another owner willing to swap if there are clashes.
Zenith is a delight for two people but readily adapts to take additional guests. These sleep on an Aerobed in the saloon. Do not think about this as the sort of bed used when camping. This is a full size double, 61 cm high, which can inflated in about a minute and deflated in less than this. Simply plug the integral pump in and switch it on.
