General Comments About the Boat

Launched in July 1999, Quince is a 45 foot 6/7 berth narrow boat fitted by Triton boat fitters of Eccles.

Coop members have been active in maintaining and upgrading the boat over the years to create a solid, well equipped, comfortable and reliable base for enjoyable cruising and holidays.

Quince is regularly and professionally serviced and maintained. Repairs and upgrades are carried out as soon as they are needed, or on a regular cycle. A new Beta Marine engine was installed in 2018. The hull is blacked every three years (last time in Summer 2019). The boat was repainted in January 2020.

From the rear, there is a large open deck with engine under; a lounge/dining area with a multi fuel stove and a CD/radio/USB player; a fully equipped kitchen with four burner hob, double oven / grill, and fridge (replaced in January 2020); a shower room with cassette toilet; a cabin with two bunk beds (sleeps up to 5); and a forward open seating area. The electrics include an inverter to allow low-power 220 volt equipment to be used (e.g. a laptop / DVD player).

There is sleeping space for two by converting the dining area, and four/five in the forward cabin (which converts to bench seating in the day).

General comments by vendor

As well as £35 per month cost, there is a charge of £50 per week for each week you are on board Quince. This covers fuel and gas etc.

Quince is a friendly and well run coop, as well as a cosy and reliable boat for your water-based holidays. In the last few years she has travelled from Sheerness on the Gloucester canal, to Devizes (Kennet and Avon), and up to the Leeds and Liverpool canal.

The areas we will cruise and the following Winter's moorings are agreed by the coop at the start of the season. For the 2020 season these decisions will be taken at the coop meeting on 14th March which the new shareholder will be welcome to attend. During the season each member picks up Quince from where the previous one left it. We always aim to hand over close to public transport, unless it is agreed between two members that this is not necessary.

The coop meets twice a year (usually November and March) near to where Quince is moored for the Winter. This location changes every year / couple of years and is agreed in advance.

At meetings we ensure that maintenance and repair needs are addressed and annual servicing is carried out. Our finances are very healthy and we have invested considerably in equipment and upgrades over the last three years.

Coop members take turns with practical tasks and in running the coop itself - for example by arranging for a boatyard to carry out winter maintenance, or acting as membership secretary.

As a shareholder you can nominate one 'approved user' to use part of your two week entitlement if you don't intend to use it all yourself. Your nomination needs to be approved by the coop and the person concerned will have to demonstrate their boat handling skills and knowledge of how the coop is run
