General Comments About the Boat

The Exterior: Semi traditional boat painted in blue and red with Rose and Castle doors and window shutters. Boat has blue cratch cover.

The Interior: From the back cockpit, enter down the ladder to find the main bedroom with a carved wood post on the bed and sink with blue and white tiles surround. There is a back closet for clothing and storage as well. The ceiling is oak panelled, and has a traditional look.

The curtains are blue and white and cranberry striped cotton with blackout linings throughout the boat which is coordinated with the blue carpeting on the floor and half way up the walls from the floor.

The main bedroom is en suite with its own sink and loo.

The main bathroom is in the middle of the boat and has a shower and sink with blue and white tile surround.

The kitchen is next and is equipped with microwave, gas oven and grill, refrigerator, and filtered drinking water. The boat is equipped with bone china service for six, glassware to include beer glasses, tall tumblers, wine glasses and short tumblers for six. There are also matching bone china mugs, and a teapot and egg cups as well. There are pots, pans, kitchen utensils, and cutlery as well.

The dining area seats 4 with extensions for an additional 2 diners. There is a wooden table with a hand thrown blue fruit bowl to match the interior. This section also converts to a comfortable double bed. The seating is finished in cranberry coloured fabric.

The front settees are also cranberry coloured and also convert into a comfortable double bed. They face our 32" flat screen Smart Samsung TV which is mounted on a bracket for pulling forward and pushing back for storage.

We have an Oyster Caro Vision II Automatic Satellite TV System which makes finding the signal very easy. An unlimited data WiFi system is installed.

An oil-fired central heating system is installed and a Squirrel Stove is fitted in the main salon area. Double glazing is fitted throughout the boat. Explorer is equipped with an hydraulic bow-thruster.

The outdoor front seating area has the aforementioned cratch cover, within which there are 2 camp chairs with table stored away for towpath relaxing. There are also games, videos and books on board for everyone to share.

Note on running costs

This year's fees are an exception in order to reinstate a contingency fund for major items of expenditure (we aim to hold circa £10K). The first instalment has been paid leaving the new shareholders responsible for the second payment (due end July)

New owners should note that expenditure in 2023 including a complete new engine and transmission, new cruising batteries, new oil-fired boiler for central heating and a new WiFi router.

Fees are agreed each year at the AGM and for the last 8-9 years have averaged between £1,000 and £1,200 and we will look to return to these levels as soon as possible by agreement with the syndicate

General Comments

We are the last of the original owners from when the boat was new under the management of Challenger. I am currently the Chairman of the Syndicate and will retain this position through this year and beyond should the owners agree that to be appropriate at the next AGM (October)

Explorer is very well maintained with a very regular maintenance regime which is why we have only just had to replace the original engine and transmission after 20 years. We believe in preventative maintenance rather than waiting for something to break.

Explorer was repainted in 2019 at the original boatyard and at the same time fitted with double glazing throughout - this has made a huge difference to cruising in the colder months. Plans are being finalised for renewal of all internal decor panels during the winter period this year.

Being a shareholder of Explorer has been a delight for these last 20 years and the current owners work well together. You will be joining a well-run boat.
